New DA leader elected

A full leadership change at the top as Geordin Hill-Lewis was elected new Federal Leader of the Democratic Alliance. He defeated Sibusiso Dyonase in the leadership race. There was no way that John Steenhuisen will contest again after a fall out with the then leadership.

The new leadership will be expected to lead the DA into the highly contested 2026 municipal elections, focus on expanding voter support beyond traditional bases blacks in particular and maintain involvement in national coalition politics of which we might see a lot of chages.

Under Hill-Lewis, the DA is expected to push pro-business, growth-focused policies, emphasise efficient governance (the so called Cape Town model) and compete harder in metros like Johannesburg and Tshwane.
